Artist Statement
I have always loved forests; shimmering light in the trees creates ever-changing translucent colors and shadows. It gives me a visceral sense of peace. As an artist, I strive to convey those emotions by inviting viewers to pause in a moment of quiet reflection.
My recent work unites my passion for nature with 30+ years of experience in creative and graphic arts. Stained glass, photographic transparencies and even commercial billboards combine additive and subtractive light to create dynamic images. I’ve developed a mixed media ‘lightbox’ technique that combines translucent acrylic, tinted resins, and sometimes branches wire or pebbles. The result is a surprising 3D image effect. A colorful, sculptural surface when the light is off; and details that come into sharper focus when the light is on.
My goal is to evoke an contemplative window into nature that reminds us, both literally and figuratively to pause and ‘look closer.’
